How To Setting Blogger | Blog Basic Settings Kaise Kare

Creating a Blogger Blog

Blogger is one of the most popular blogging sites in the world, which was opened in mid-1999 by Ruga Labs, and subsequently acquired by Google (Fig. 3.23). This became the reason for the even greater popularity of blog hosting, Google made free all the additional features that had previously been charged, and added new ones.

Another significant contribution to the blogosphere was made by Evan Williams, the founder of Ruga Labs, who coined the word “blogger” as the definition of a person blogging.

Blogger is more focused on technological solutions than social elements. Therefore, blogs on its platform look like independent resources, and 90% of their readers are not users of this blog hosting.

Fig. 3.23. Blogger Blog Hosting

Create a blog in three steps

If you already have an account and often use Google services, it will be convenient to use an existing account.

Step 1. Register

Before you start creating a blog, you need to log in. You can do this by logging in through your Google account, or create a new account (Fig. 3.24).

Fig. 3.24. Blogger Registration

If you are logged in with your Google account, you will be asked to select a name (nickname) for comments and accept the agreement.

Step 2. Name the blog

By clicking the Create a blog button, you will be taken to the Name a blog section, in which you are asked to select a blog name and its address (URL), more precisely, the part of the address before ... blogspot.com. Although blog hosting is located at btogger.com, blogs on its platform are located on the blogspot.com domain, and this should be taken into account (Fig. 3.25).

Fig. 3.25. Choosing a Title for a Blog

About how to choose a name for the blog, it was described in detail above, in the subsection "Register your blog in four steps", when described "Step 1: Create an account."

After you have entered the address of the future blog, click on the Check availability link under the address and check its availability. If the address is already taken, the system will offer you several new ones to choose from.

Step 3. Select the initial template.

At this step, you are invited to choose a template for the future blog from several suggested templates. This step is purely formal, because there are a lot of ready-made templates in Blogger and you can choose another template later (Fig. 3.26).

Fig. 3.26. Choosing a blog template

That's all, your blog is created and ready to use.

Customize Blogger

Once you have created a blog, you need to set it up. For convenience, you can open your blog in a second browser window. By refreshing the page, you can see how the changes take effect and what they lead to.

To open the settings for your blog, go to the toolbar by clicking the Settings link (Fig. 3.27).

Fig. 3.27. Blogger Setup

Now consider what settings are offered on the main tabs.

Basic tab

Using the settings in the Blog Tools area, you can import blog entries from an XML file, export blog entries to a file, or delete a blog. It is worth noting that import and export are carried out when moving the blog to another platform or when changing the address. This procedure is very painful for the blog, and it is worth resorting to it only in extreme cases.

How To Setting Blogger | Blog Basic Settings Kaise Kare

And although this is quite simple to do, often it does not need to be changed, as readers should be able to remember the name of the blog they are reading.

When entering a description in the Description window, focus on the style of the selected template. A long description doesn’t look good everywhere, so at first it’s worth deciding on a blog template to the end.

Settings that determine the accessibility and visibility of your blog - Add your blog to our catalogs- it is better to leave it on.

You can customize the settings for editing posts, but if you don’t have specific preferences, leave it as it is.

Function Enable transliteration? for Russian-language blogs can be disabled as unnecessary.

Show links to send email? - A useful feature, but there is a more advanced option, so you can not include it.

In the Address field in Blog * Spot, you can change the address of your blog, more precisely, the prefix before. blogspot.com. Doing this is highly discouraged if you have been blogging for some time, since all links, bookmarks to your blog will stop working.

Also in this section there is a very useful feature that allows you to connect your own domain to your Blogger blog. As a result, your blog will be hosted and managed on the Blogger platform, but the blog address and all links will be links from your domain. For example, instead of blog.blogspot.com, you can register and connect a domain like blog.com.

If you have serious intentions, it’s better to do it right away: although Blogger will redirect links to the new domain, it will be much more convenient for your readers to immediately remember and search engines to index your blog domain.

Formatting tab

In the Show at least field, you can select the number of messages that will be displayed on the main page. It makes sense to choose 5-10 posts. The days parameter should not be set, otherwise the number of posts will constantly change on the main page of the blog.

In the Message Template area, enter the text or HTML that will appear in Blogger's post editor. This is convenient if you start every blog post with the same introduction or use the same HTML code for the layout.

Other formats - date, time and language output - configure at your discretion. But keep in mind: if the blog audience is from a specific region, it is better to set date formats convenient for them and other settings.

Comments tab

On this tab, you can configure the visibility of comments and access to them. There are not many comments at the very beginning of a blog’s life, so make commenting on your blog as simple as possible (Fig. 3.28).

Fig. 3.28. Setting comment moderation

If you want the discussion of your post to be immediately visible to everyone, in the Comments field, select Show.

In the field Who can post comments? select Any. This will allow blog visitors to leave comments without registering. Only if a lot of spam appears, can you switch to the Registered Users mode. It is worth remembering that the need to register, authorize or enter the code from the image scares away many users.

The Backlinks option allows you to notify you that a link has been put to your blog. In practice, this is often used by spammers. Therefore, it is better to disable this function.

In the Message area of the comment form, a message is typed that will be displayed next to the comment form. You can use this option in order to motivate visitors to leave comments on your post. For these purposes, you can use appeals like "Did you like the article? What do you think of her? ”,“ Wait, leave your review, dear reader!

In the Comment input area, you can configure approval for comments before posting. If you do not approve some of the comments, they will not appear on the blog.

At the very beginning, it’s worth disabling the option Show verification based on graphic code for comments? and enable it only if spam comments are constantly coming to the blog. It is worth remembering that nobody likes to enter codes from the picture and often after the first erroneous input people close the page without having performed an action.

But the setting to Show profile images in comments? it’s worth including that the comments are more personalized, contain not only the username, but also its small image.

If you are comfortable, you can turn on Comment Alert by email to receive notification of new comments and respond quickly to them, but as a rule it often gets in the way.

Archiving tab

The function Update archive frequency is responsible for the time periods of the blog archive (an element on the sidebar of the blog). Although the archive is used quite often on blog hosting sites, its availability is useless unless you publish posts whose relevance is limited in time, such as sports forecasts.

Setting Enable Message Pages? responsible for whether each blog post has a separate page. By default, it is enabled, and you should not disable it.

Site Channel Tab

The settings on this tab are responsible for the operation of the RSS feed of the blog, for more details about its work, see the subsection "RSS-shadow of your blog."

Using the Allow blog feeds setting, you can set how full the RSS feed will be for your blog and whether it will do it at all. For the blog to give the full text of articles in RSS, select the Full option.

Using the option to redirect the message channel, you can specify the address to which the RSS feed of your blog will be redirected, that is, where the request will be redirected to http://vash-blog.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?alt= rss. Be sure to configure the redirect to the RSS feed received in FeedBurner (for how to get it, read the subsection “RSS shadow of your blog” in this chapter).

In the Message Channel Footer area, you can customize text or HTML code that will be automatically added to each of your posts on the RSS feed. Here you can add copyright with a link to a blog, advertisement or just a message to your users.

Email tab and mobile devices

Use the Email notifications option to configure a list of addresses to which blog posts will be sent after publication. Do not add people e-mail without their consent.

Using the Options for sending messages you can configure the publication of entries via e-mail and mobile devices. This method of publication is convenient for keeping personal diaries, in particular the diary of a traveler, and other ways of using the blog for personal purposes or for communication with friends and relatives.

For professional blogging, especially for making money on a blog, this method of publication is not applicable.

OpenID Tab

On this tab, you can see the URL of your OpenID and sites for which your URL will always be available (Fig. 3.29).

Fig. 3.29. OpenID on Blogger

OpenID is an authorization method that is used by many sites and blog hosting sites. In other words, using your OpenID in Blogger, you can log in and take the necessary action without registering (for example, leave a comment in Livejoumal).

It is worth noting that ordinary users rarely use OpenID, because they do not want to understand the device of this system, and therefore they log in using social networks.

Permissions Tab

Using the Blog Authors option, you can send invitations to other people and invite them to become authors of your blog too. It’s better not to do this, especially for beginners: very few blogs are maintained by several bloggers on equal terms for a long time, usually these are hired authors led by the editor-in-chief. If your friends or readers want to write a blog, you can publish their article yourself.

The Blog Readers list lists people who have become fans of the blog through the Regular Readers widget or the Become a Follower link located on the top panel of Blogger. Do not confuse them with the subscribers of the RSS feed of the blog.

It is worth noting that in RuNet this widget did not become popular, users liked social network widgets more. Therefore, the significance of the setting in question is insignificant, and the presence of this widget is of little use.

Blogger User Profile

To configure a user profile, go to the Toolbar? Change profile. A well-filled profile can be a good reason to subscribe to your blog for other Blogger users, and for other visitors it will be an indicator of your professionalism. Consider the options you can configure.

? Confidentiality - you can configure as you wish. The main thing is not to uncheck the Share access to my profile box. It is also advisable to show your real name and surname in the profile.

? Personal data - in this section you can enter information about yourself: name, surname and display name (in this field you can duplicate the name and surname or enter a nickname). You can enter another email address, this will not affect the username and password for logging into Blogger.

? Photography - you can upload a photo from your computer, use a photo or image from the Internet. Do not neglect this opportunity: a blogger who posts his photos and talks about himself is more trusted than the one who hides this information.

The photo you add will be used in the comments and displayed on your profile page.

? Sound clip - you can give a link to the sound clip or page on which you can listen to it. The usefulness of this action is very doubtful: it is much better to create a page and place the player code and the information about yourself that you consider important on it.

? General - in this section you can enter general information about yourself, gender, date of birth. In the URL field of your personal page, you can specify the address of your blog. The URL field of the wish list can be left blank; it is relevant for personal diaries. But you can fill in the Name field in the chat if you are not afraid that too many messages will come to your messenger.

? Location - you can write about where you are now, but if you do not want to provide reliable data, leave the field blank.

? Work - in this section you can indicate your occupation. If you write notes on a narrow topic, let us know about your qualifications.

? Detailed information - you can indicate your interests and hobbies. Try to indicate the maximum interests related to your activity, and pay less attention to what is not related to the topic of the blog.

For example, if you write about architecture, your readers may not understand if most of your interests will be related to cooking.

Blog design

One of the benefits of the Blogger platform is its work with templates. Bloggers have ample opportunity to redesign their blogs. It is possible to edit the template code, use ready-made templates that are laid out on many sites on the Internet. And the visual editor of Blogger templates allows you to create a beautiful original design for your blog.

Template designer

The visual editor Blogger Template Designer will allow even beginners who have no experience in web design to customize the appearance of the blog and give it a unique and individuality (Fig. 3.30).

Fig. 3.30. Blogger Template Designer

All blog design changes will be visible while working on the template in the same browser window. And when you're done, you just have to click the Apply to blog button for the changes to take effect.

If you click the Maximize preview window button, the visual editor will collapse into a narrow strip on the screen, making it possible to better view changes in the design of the blog.

Consider the tabs with the options for Blogger Template Designer.

? Templates - this tab presents the main types of templates. Select one of them and their subspecies will appear below. As soon as you click on one of them, you will immediately see how the template will look in your blog.

? Background - using the options contained in this tab, you can customize the background of the blog design by selecting it from the many options presented. You can also select a background image or download a picture that will be a background from your computer.

? Design - on this tab you can configure the structure of the template, that is, the location of its elements. You can add and change elements on another page of blog design settings.

? Width adjustment - you can adjust the width of the blog and some elements. Do not make the blog too narrow, otherwise it will be inconvenient to read the text. Also, do not make the blog too wide; the optimal Blogger blog width is 900-1000 pixels.

? Additionally - this tab provides the ability to customize the styles of individual blog elements, fonts, links, backgrounds of small elements. The selected item will be circled in red. Also on this tab you can add your own CSS styles.

Make sure the text is well read (black text is best read on a white background). Do not make the font of the post text too small, it should be at least 12-14 pixels. Make sure that the colors of small elements are in harmony with each other, do not make an excessive amount of bright elements, they can distract and interfere with reading the blog.

Change HTML template

In the Reserve / restore a template section, you can download a copy of your blog’s template settings and upload the template to your Blogger from your computer (Fig. 3.31).

Fig. 3.31. Editing Blogger HTML Template

Some bloggers create original templates for Blogger and post them on their websites and blogs for free download. You can download and use the ones you like.

Editing the template code in the Change Template section requires some experience and web design skills. But if you still want to experiment, first back up your template to your computer.

The Old Templates section provides the ability to use old Blogger templates. However, they are largely inferior to the new ones, so there are no objective reasons for their use.

Page Elements

In this section you can configure the basic elements of the page and gadgets (Fig. 3.32).

Fig. 3.32. Layout and customization of Blogger items

NOTE

Gadgets on Blogger are a small independent element with additional functionality, for example, broadcasting the latest news, latest comments or the latest blog entries.

To change the location of gadgets or swap them on the page, you just need to drag them.

For the Navigation Bar, which appears at the very top of the blog, you can select several color options.

In the Super blog field (title), you can enter the name and description of your blog, as well as add an image.

In the Blog Posts area, you can design the posts that appear on your blog. You can use the checkboxes to select the necessary elements and configure their display, below you can see how they will be located (some of them can be moved with the mouse).

The following items are available to you.

? Article writing date - use this element to set the date, for example, in the format “January 1, 2011”.

? Author - if you are the only author of the blog, it’s already clear who the author of the article is, so this element can be disabled.

? Writing time - if you do not write several posts a day and the time of writing does not play a significant role, it is better to disable this option.

? Comments - this element is commonly used on blogs. The comment counter shows how much a particular blog article is being discussed.

? Labels (they are also tags or tags) - use them to make blog categories from labels later.

? Show “Quick edit” - this item is visible only to the author of the blog. You can enable it for easy editing blog entries.

? Actions - This element allows readers to rate blog entries. For example, visitors can check the boxes near the epithets “good”, “interesting”, “bad”, and then the number of votes will be calculated on the blog. The usefulness of this element is very controversial, but if you like it and you see the point in it, you can use it.

? Show links to send e-mail - this element has a more modern analogue, so you can not use it.

? Show buttons for publishing - this element allows your readers to leave links to your posts on social networks, on their blogs on Blogger and send them to friends by mail.

? Show ads between posts - this item will be available for inclusion if you enable AdSense for your blog.

? Copyright Information - You can add copyright information. It will be useful to write that when using the materials of your blog you need to put a link and indicate the authorship of the article.

? Gadgets - Gadgets can be used on a blog in several places. To change the location of the gadget, just drag it to the desired location. Typically, gadgets are placed in the sidebar of a blog. In addition, you can select them from the list of available ones or use additional ones by entering a link to the gadget (Fig. 3.33).

Fig. 3.33. Blogger Gadgets

ATTENTION

Novice bloggers often make the mistake of overloading a blog with many gadgets. Do not forget that the most valuable thing on a blog is the posts. An overabundance of gadgets can prevent a visitor from reading a blog.

List of the most useful gadgets:

? Pages - displays a list of the pages of your blog;

? AdSense - if you decide to make money on a blog using the AdSense program, this gadget will be indispensable;

? HTML / JavaScript is an indispensable gadget, you can add any codes to it, for example codes of banners, links, flash-players;

? Text - if you just want to insert short text, use this gadget;

? Image - use this gadget to insert a small image or banner into the blog;

? Labels - be sure to use this widget, since it can be used to organize blog notes by category.

But you can not be limited only to these gadgets, only in Blogger there are more than a thousand of them and new ones are constantly appearing. The main thing is to skillfully use them in reasonable quantities.

Adding Blogger Entries

Using the Submit menu, you can create and publish new blog entries, edit already written ones and add new pages (Fig. 3.34).

Fig. 3.34. Add a New Blogger Entry

Blogger can create up to 10 separate pages. But first, create a page with information about the author or the blog. With the development of the blog, you will have many options for using the specified number of pages. For example, you can place information for advertisers, terms of cooperation, information about your products and services.

In the New post section, there is a text editor that allows you to design and publish blog entries. The main ways to format recordings are standard and are used everywhere.

The editor has two tabs - Create (visual editor) and Change HTML (HTML editor). Typically, bloggers make a post in a visual editor - this is faster and more convenient. If you need to edit something in the HTML code of the entry, then you can switch to the HTML editor and make the necessary changes (Fig. 3.35).

Fig. 3.35. Blogger Post HTML Editor

The title of the new blog entry is entered in the Title field. For each record, come up with a beautiful, sonorous title. Often bloggers publish blog posts without a title, but this is a sign of unprofessionalism, and you should not do so.

To learn how to come up with good headlines, just look at the headlines of large-circulation newspapers or news sites on your subject. Remember that often with a headline alone, a person decides whether to read an article or not.

Select the Message settings? Drop-down menu item? Date and time of publication to use the Schedule publication option. This option allows you to configure the publication date, upon which the post will be published on the blog automatically, without your participation. This is very convenient, since you can pre-prepare a series of posts and set a different date for their publication.

What's next?

Further you should continue to study the device of your blog on Blogger (in the online support of the book you will find many useful links on the Blogger platform).

It will be great if you learn how to design blog posts quickly and well and start attracting the first readers.

But the main thing is to quickly become a professional blogger who masterfully manages his blog, has thousands of visitors and readers.
